High Temperature Primer Info

DESCRIPTION:

KBS Hi-Temp Primer prevents corrosion of metal surfaces exposed to high heat, high humidity, condensation and salt air. KBS Hi-Temp Primer functions much like galvanizing as it locks itself to bare metal surfaces leaving a perfect primed surface for top coating. Topcoat with KBS Hi-Temp paint or KBS Motor Coater Engine Enamel to prevent rusting and streaking of steel in severe weathering exposures. Hi-Temp Primer can be used alone as a finish paint. KBS Hi-Temp Primer withstands temps in excess of 648C. KBS Hi-Temp Zinc Primer is free of fluorocarbons, lead, and chromates.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Steel surface to be primed must be dry and free from dirt, oils, rust, and other contaminants. Sandblasting is the ideal surface preparation as it leaves the ideal anchor pattern for paint adhesion. After blasting, use compressed air to blow off any residual blast media. Be sure to wear surgical-type gloves when handling to keep natural body oils off the prepared surface.

If not sandblasting, prepare surface by using wire wheel, wire brushing, or abrasive sanding using 60-80 grit paper. This method will provide a surface equivalent to that provided by sandblasting and allow the desired surface profile or anchor pattern. Wash surface with KBS AquaKlean at a 10:1 (water/AquaKlean) rinse and let dry thoroughly, or a thorough wipe down with Acetone or Lacquer Thinner is recommended to wash away residual oils. Allow surface to thoroughly dry before proceeding./p>

Application Guidelines:

NOTE: Before applying observe safety precautions. Extinguish fires, flames and hot coals. DO NOT SMOKE. Turn off pilot lights, stoves, heaters, electric motors, and other sources of ignition during use and until vapors are gone. Make certain surfaces and contents of item to be painted have completely cooled down. Do not apply unless surface temperature is between 16-30C.

APPLICATION:

Shake can vigorously for one minute after mixing ball rattles freely to ensure proper mixing and to prevent sprayhead from clogging. Repeat shaking frequently during use. Hold can 20-35 cm from surface and apply using steady, even strokes. Apply two light coats, allowing 15 minutes drying time between coats. Clean sprayhead immediately after use by turning can upside down and spraying until no more paint appears. If clogging occurs, remove sprayhead and clean with a fine wire. Replace carefully, pointing can and sprayhead away from you. Allow primed surface to dry a minimum of 30 minutes before top coating with the KBS Hi-Temp or KBS Motor Coater color of your choice.
